Well, I gave myself a bit of a vacation after the two weeks of Blog touring. The vacation was less updates here as well as on my FB page. However, I have been writing. Finished chapter six of my Paranormal Mystery, and I'm very happy with how it's progressing. I've also continued my foray into the Twitterverse. Though I'm still feeling my way around, I have a feeling I'm going to like it. Funny, because I swore I would never go there. I mean, there are only so many tricks this old dog should be expected to learn, right? I guess I realized that I'm not really that old of a dog, so I should quit acting like one. (Also, if I were an old anything, it would be a lynx or something, not a dog.) Now I'm glad I took the plunge, because I'm finding Twitter to be fun, amusing, and at times, inspiring. Feel free to give me a follow, and I'll feel free to follow back (unless you are fond of posting racist comments or the like, of course.) Thanks and love! @emeraldlavere
Sometimes I think there is no ill that can't be lessened by good chocolate. Especially at moments like these, when I am letting an Ethel M dark chocolate liquor melt in, and warm, my mouth. Ah, the flavor, the sensation, the aphrodisical properties! But putting that pleasure aside, there are other events to relish today...
This past weekend I finished up my very first blog tour. A number of lovely, interesting, fun, and wild blogs hosted my book and me over the past two weeks. (To visit any of them, links are in the previous blog posts below). Four giveaway entrants have received, or will be receiving, a free copy of The Wikomsette. It was fun and gratifying for me to get to deliver two of the copies to excited winners. I do hope they enjoy the company of my characters as much as I enjoyed writing about them!
In addition, two of the blogs posted reviews, and very nice reviews at that. This of course, pleases me greatly, and in fact, brings a tear to my eye. Who knew there would be so much crying involved in writing? Probably every author ever. Even the most stoic probably struggle with the inevitable rejection letters from agents and publishers (if there has ever been an author that hasn't suffered through at least some of those, I have yet to learn of him or her).
I don't actually recall crying over any rejection notices though. To my surprise there has been a lot more happy crying. The first time, was after giving my first completed draft to a friend who reads extensive amounts of romance and erotica stories. When she got back to me, telling me she'd stayed up all night to finish reading because she couldn't put it down, and that she loved the story, I wept. A dream had been realized. To complete a book, and to have someone read it, and love it.
The second time, was when I received the acceptance letter from Loose Id Publishing. Part of that sob fest was because I couldn't share the news that I was attaining another lifelong dream, that of becoming a published author, with my mother, who has been greatly lost to dementia. That part of the cry was actually quite ridiculous though, since no matter what my mother's cognitive skills, I would never have told her I was publishing an erotic story.
And most recently, the crying has been over positive reviews. It's wonderful to have friends that love your work, but to have someone with no other connection to you, look solely at the work itself, and deem it worthy...well, that is something else. If I'm lucky, it will start to happen so often that I'll get used to it, and not need a tissue every time. Here is the link to the most recent review. It is brief, and may not seem like much to some, but to a woman who spent a year a half of her life laboring over the work, a few positive words can mean the world.
Just go to Gingersnaps In The Morning and leave a comment to enter! She will be giving out copies to two lucky winners! She is a wild, funny, awesome woman with a great blog. Check it out! Again, I am so thankful to the awesome blogs that hosted The Wikomsette and myself, these past two weeks. I am also thankful to the new followers on FB, Twitter and Goodreads. I'm very grateful for all the blogs that have been hosting the tour of The Wikomsette these past two weeks. Writing the book is the fun part. Admittedly it can get less fun as the rewrites and edits go on and on in an effort to attain that oh so elusive, perfection. I am proud of what I've accomplished (will the help of Beta readers and professional editors, of course). But to stand up on the mountain top and shout, "Hey Everybody! Here's my book. Read it, please!", well now, that's harder. But why is it? I want people to read my book. It's been polished up and the overall quality of the writing is, if I do say so myself, quite respectable. I guess what it comes down to, is even though I love this story, and I love these characters, so much that what started out as a short story turned into an 85,000+ word novel, I know that not everyone will feel the same. And that's okay. I guess I just have to accept the fact that I'll be offering Regina and her men to those who may despise them, but also making sure they are offered to those who will love them as I do. So if you are reading this, I don't know which category you may fall into, but I humbly offer my work to you, and all readers of erotic sci-fi, to decide for yourselves. I also ask you to please visit today's blog host: Crystal's Many Reviewers, for an excerpt/review and raffle for a free copy (eBook) of The Wikomsette. Blessings to you, and happy reading!
